About Me

In sixteen easy lessons, Ed Cannan has covered all of the fundamentals necessary to read music. Using a keyboard to sound out each note and an instructional audio tape to go along with each lesson, this study will benefit anyone desiring to read Instrumental or Vocal Music.

Ed Cannan taught both Instrumental and Vocal Music in Texas public schools for 41 years. His bands and choirs have always received top honors at contests. He holds B.M., B.M.Ed. and M.M.Ed. degrees. Ed served two terms as President of the Texas Music Educators Association, and he is a life member of that organization. He was presented with Life Membership in Kappa Kappa Psi, National Band Fraternity, by the Sam Houston State University Chapter. Recently, he was inducted into the Texas Bandmasters Hall of Fame during their convention in San Antonio.

schoolside1.jpg (45553 bytes) On October 17, 1999, Willis ISD in Willis, Texas named their new elementary school in honor of Edward B. Cannan. Mr. Cannan became the school district's music coordinator and band director in 1960 and served until his retirement in 1978.

schoolfront1 copy1.jpg (12711 bytes) During his service at Willis ISD, he organized the district's first school choirs in both Junior High and Senior High Schools. Additionally, Cannan developed the marching program, initiated a tradition of entering many competitive events, and wrote the Willis School Song. In addition to Willis, Mr. Cannan taught music for forty one years and also taught at Liberty, Pasadena, Conroe, and Houston, Texas schools.
